WHat is AutoComplete?
 Use OpenOffice.org

On 06 May 2005, Caleb Marcus asked about AutoComplete

When I am typing, Writer sometimes suggests words by showing them highlighted in blue. There are two things I would like to know:

  1. What is this feature called?
  2. How do I use it? (how do I insert the suggested word)

Hi Marcus,

It's called AutoCorrect. You can accept the suggestion either by pressing Enter (or possibly End, Space or Right-Arrow). AutoCorrect is very powerful. For example, it looks at words within your current document and uses them to make suggestions.

Go to Tools > AutoCorrect/AutoFormat

There you'll be able to fine-tune AutoCorrect. For example:

  1. On the "Word Completion" tab, you can tell OOo which key you want to use to accept achange, and a few other options. For example, I set my OOo to suggest the word as a tool-tip.
  2. On the "Replace" tab, you can add your own replace patterns. For example, suppose you write the world "internationalization" a lot. You can set OOo so that whe you write i18n, OOo automatically replaces it by "internationalization".

Cheers,
Daniel.
